Georgios Halkias joined the University of Vienna in 2014 as Assistant Professor at the Chair of International Marketing. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Marketing and Communication, and an MSc in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Warwick, Warwick Business School, where his thesis on strategic advertising communication was awarded with “outstanding performance.” Georgios has worked as a Research and Teaching Fellow at the Athens University of Economics and Business and has industry experience with multinational firms, such as Société Générale and Procter & Gamble, in Greece and the United Kingdom.


His current work lies in the area of consumer behavior and international marketing, while his main research interests include schema theory, stereotyping, information incongruity, implicit and explicit cognition, decisions heuristics and biases.

Georgios’ research has attracted multiple funds from national and EU sources and has received several international distinctions. His work has been published, among others, in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Business Research, and International Journal of Advertising, as well as in academic books (e.g., Routlegde: Taylor & Francis) and international conference proceedings (e.g., American Marketing Association, Association for Consumer Research, European Marketing AcademyBritish Psychological Society, and European Advertising Academy).

Georgios serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing ReviewEuropean Journal of Marketing, Journal of Product and Brand Management as well as the ACR, AMA, and EMAC conferences.
