Georgios Halkias is Associate Professor (Priv.-Doz.) at the Chair of International Marketing. He holds a Habilitation degree in Business (BWL) from the University of Vienna, a PhD in Marketing from the Athens University of Economics and Business and an MSc in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Warwick, Warwick Business School. In the past, Georgios has worked at the Athens University of Economics and Business and has gained industry experience with multinational firms, such as Société Générale and Procter & Gamble, in Greece and the United Kingdom.


His work lies in the area of consumer psychology, advertising, and branding, while his main research interests include schema theory, stereotyping, information incongruity, decision heuristics and biases, and experiential-material consumption.

Georgios’ research has attracted multiple funds from national and EU sources and has received several international distinctions. His work has been published, among others, in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Advertising and International Marketing Review, as well as in academic books (e.g., Routlegde: Taylor & Francis) and international conference proceedings (e.g., American Marketing Association, Association for Consumer Research, European Marketing Academy, British Psychological Society, and European Advertising Academy).

Georgios serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Advertising, British Journal of Management, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing Review, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Product and Brand Management as well as for the ACR, AMA, and EMAC conferences. 

Teaching & Mentoring

Georgios has taught the following (under)graduate courses at the University of Vienna and is the recipient of the “Best Teaching Award 2017”

  • Advanced Topics in International Marketing (graduate course)
  • Experimental Research Methods (graduate workshops & seminars)
  • Marketing Management II – ABWL Marketing 2 (undergraduate course)
  • Conducting Academic Research – Bachelorseminar/Bachelorarbeit (undergraduate course)

In addition, he has (co-)supervised and mentored a number of BSc, MSc, and PhD theses and he is open to discuss with prospective students who are interested in consumer behavior phenomena and have an experimental/quantitative research focus.
